8 February 2010: Bury Divers go high and dry for charity ...

Advanced Divers, Mick Brown, Mike Littler and Lynda Hughes who are members of Bury Sub Aqua Club www.burysac.org.uk are swapping adventures in the sea for cold mountains and a hot, dry desert - but it's all in a good cause!
Mick who will be celebrating his 50th and Mike his 40th this year and Lynda wanted to do something challenging and totally different but also something that would benefit other people.
So on 12th February, they are hiking 20,000 feet up Mount Kilimanjaro. All three of them have been training hard in preparation for this epic journey where they are hoping to raise a lot of money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
Then on 17th March Mick Brown will be joining a group of people on an organised charity walk travelling 125 km across the Namibian desert in South West Africa. This is to raise money for Action Medical Research a charity that funds medical research in the prevention and treatment of diseases affecting babies and children. Mick has already managed to raise well over £3,000.
Mick who lives in Radcliffe is also a Committee member of the Radcliffe & District Pool League since 1981and has received sponsorship and support from his family, friends, work mates at Welding Engineering in Darwen, Blackburn, the local Bury & Radcliffe Pool Leagues and collections made in local pubs such as the Top Bull on Bury & Bolton Road and Henigans in Little Lever
Mick said "I have had such a lot of support from my family and friends at Bury Sub Aqua Club and it's really fantastic that a lot of local people have also done me proud in helping to raise a lot of money for these great causes and just goes to show how much people care".
